I had an experience in the trees with a handful of Steller's Jay birds a while back. It was intense and complex and I'll go into detail about it another time. But for now, it's enough to know It was during an especially difficult time and now they reminded me it's ok, good even, to use your voice.
They are a reminder to speak up - to use your voice no matter what difficulties are happening.
And using your voice doesn't always come in the form of yelling with your mouth.
Often, our actions speak much louder.
They visit me at the craziest moments, always when I need that reminder.
A reminder that we all deserve to be here. It's ok to take up space, to be big and loud and stand up for your place in the world.
The video below shows how I carved and formed a substrate in wax, electroformed it (heavy plating in copper), hammered a shallow bowl in copper sheet metal and fused it with glass enamel in a 1500 degree kiln. I drew the bird and dandelion background using special enamel pencils. After adding a patina and final assembly, I'm pleased to show you the finished result.

This piece is stunning. And the process you used to create it takes so much patience, creativity and strength. I love this piece!
